Semi-Intensive Learning Curriculum

Mandarin House has spent over a decade developing and tweaking the course materials, teaching & learning process to make sure that students who join courses with us can start using their Chinese right away.

Instead of learning small words and phrases and building upon that, Mandarin House reverse engineers the process so that you learn full dialogues that would happen in real life, to allow students to learn as quickly and efficiently as possible.

For example, a situation like “Introducing Yourself” – Hello, how are you?, my name is…, I am British, what is your name?, what nationality are you?… This small dialogue between two people is explained in English and broken down into Chinese phrases, words and grammar rules. This way, a student can understand immediately and learn the small intricacies within specific dialogues as they go.

Great Learning Outcomes at Sydney Mandarin House

The chart below explains the learning outcomes after first five levels. Our curriculum is brought into line with both the new HSK levels and European CEFR levels, in order to introduce you to real-life Chinese faster than you thought possible. It is regularly updated based on the feedback from our students and teachers.

To give you a better idea of the outcome – the first level of Mandarin House textbook covers 26 conversational topics, you will have learned tones, pinyin, 50 grammar points, and roughly 400 words – including the 150 required words to pass HSK Level 1.

Understand and use very simple Chinese phrases, meet basic needs for communication and possess the ability to further their Chinese language studies.

Excellent grasp of basic Chinese and can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.

Communicate in Chinese at a basic level in their daily, academic and professional lives, and can manage most communication in Chinese when travelling in China.
